The Sonar, a modern 23' one design keelboat, is a high performance ISAF recognized racer and also a comfortable day sailor just right for getting the entire family and friends on the water together. With a large open cockpit, the Sonar has been the boat of choice for the Paralympics for the past six years. It features include cuddy cabin with two 7' 1/2 bunks, inboard rudder, crew of three or four, and a cockpit with seating for seven. As such, it is ideal for sailing on the river, sound, bay, or inshore ocean.

The club has an active and growing racing fleet with an average of five or six boats on the starting line each Sunday. Each year Fleet 23 sponsors the 'Tappan Zee Challenge' which is the first Sonar Class Association regatta of the spring season. Members also travel to regattas in venues such as Marblehead, MA; Long Island Sound; Newport, RI; Rochester, NY; and St. Petersburg, FL. Boat owners are always looking for crew and are generally willing to train those who are interested.
